On The Rainbow Trail

27-July-2018
Westcliffe Co

A morning in Pueblo checking out the river walk then up the hill to the villages of Westcliffe and SilverCliff.
Spent the first night at Painted View Ranch, site of an American Cutting Horse Competition.
Made coffee on the back of the gunship (with the new JetBoil stove) and caught a couple of classes  of the cutting horse trials.
Pretty well trained and well behaved horses. Certainly a bit saner than the average thoroughbred.

Wandered around in the Gunship for a few hours and ended up at Alvarado Campground at the Base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Spent the night there and had a nice hike from the campground on the Rainbow trail.
Plan to spend another night in Westcliffe then its on up the road toward civilization

In Like Flint

24-July-2018
Pueblo Co

The Gunship rolled out of and undisclosed location 4 days ago and finds itself at the front range of the Rocky Mountains.
It took some time

We made KC Mo in 2 days and spent some time with our good friends Frank, Pat and Sadie.
We took a little look around beautiful KC
Mostly we ate great food!
Yes, we did go to Joes Bar-B-Que and gas station again.
Burnt ends and IPA. A coma inducing lunch.

After some visiting we pointed west, avoided the interstate, and found ourselves at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.
A nice spot comprising 11,000 acres of grasslands, buffalo, and some dead Rich guys house.
The Flint Hills of Kansas near Strong City. Beautiful Country

We wandered around for a couple of hours then hit the road again.
Stayed off the interstate and found ourselves in Pueblo Co by days end.
Hotel, Dinner at Applebee’s (seriously) and a good night sleep

We’ll look around tomorrow

The Gunship ready to slip its moorings from home base

A little out of focus but a nice red tail off the top of a windmill

The Gunship Rolls.... Soon

17-July 2018
Avon NC

Extensive upgrades to the Gunship are complete.’
The air conditioner was fixed.
A new wheel bearing is in place
We got a JetBoil stove to make coffee.
An ac inverter was installed off the house battery....

Who cares???

The gunship(and its intrepid crew of Captain Bob and Miss Sciency) are readying for the latest mission.

Another trek to the west, with a  far target of British Columbia somewhere above Vancouver.
Where the smelt live.

Some might opine this trip smells a lot like the award winning “Looky Looky for the Halibuti” run completed a year ago. But they are very Very different.

Smelt are very small fish.
You need many of them to provide an adequate dinner.
Some people eat the heads.
Halibut are very large fish.
One halibut can feed a Boy Scout troop.
Almost no one eats the head. I’m guessing some people use it for soup.

Anyway, Here is a smelt

Here is a flock of smelt.   That’s what a school of smelt on a stick is called.... Really.... no I made that up.

So, that’s the goal... Nothing more ... nothing less

One must learn to set expectations appropriately..

More to come
