Is the search for smelt just an expression of my own ego?

We often enjoy an audio book in the evenings when sleeping in the gunship.
Currently we are listening to  Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.

The book has let me to  question my reasons for this smelt search I have embarked upon.

Am I pursuing the smelt with a personal force beyond reason?
Have the smelt, without knowing, come to exert an existential power over me?
Will smelt ever make me happy, or will I, much like Siddhartha, find the smelt to be but a temporal quenching of my lifelong quest for inner peace?

Truth is, I don’t know.

What I do know is virtually no one around here has the foggiest idea about finding, cooking or eating smelt.
I’m a bit disappointed.
But not daunted.

Turns out there are a million, perhaps a billion, wild blackberries out here.
It also happens that the Himalayan blackberry is a non-native species.
Apparently it needs eradication.

Should I dedicate my inner being to consume all ripened berries of the noxious weed to better the world?

Sounds like a plan..... at least till i find some smelt.
